It’s that time of year again!!
I have been looking back through my work lately, thinking about how to proceed in the upcoming year. It’s been a difficult decision and I’m still working through it. But basically this is going to be a quiet year for me, I think. I have decided to take some time, to focus on my style, do a little continuing education, increasing my skills, networking and CREATING for myself.
Being creative is what art is about. For me, the business side of things has overwhelmed me to the point where the creative side has been pushed aside. In order for me to continue with my business I need to be happy with what I’m producing, what I’m creating and how I feel about all aspects of my business. So you may not see as MUCH work coming out of my studio this year, but believe me, I’m predicting what I do produce is going to be game changing!
But with that said, I really did have an incredible year in 2015. It was tough though. With a newborn baby, I found myself treading water to stay afloat and not really going anywhere. Jobs took a little longer to complete, email responses took a little longer, I didn’t accept as many jobs. Blogging was nearly non-existant, as was travel, education and networking. But the clients I did book, the weddings I did shoot and the images I did create, were really, really special.
As always, I thank all of my clients from the bottom of my heart- whether you were a first timer with me this year, a repeat client or even a past client who didn’t get a session this year. You all keep me going. I owe everything to you guys. I wouldn’t be me without you <3 <3 <3
And with that said, take a peek at this past year. These are my favorite images from 2015.
Let’s start with the babies!! This year seemed to be the year of newborns for me, which is unusual since I’m not your typical newborn photographer. My approach to newborns is much more natural, lifestyle type portraiture. I’m not so much of a fan of the heavily posed, propped, styled newborn photos. Give me a simply swaddled baby, snuggling with mama over a baby in a bucket any day! Here are my favorite newborn images from this past year (Including my own sweet baby!!)
And of course, with this year’s schedule heavy with newborns, you can imagine I had a few maternity sessions in there as well!
I did a few personal projects this year as well! First I teamed up with the Enchanted Gardens Floral Shop in Delmar and created some beautiful images of the flower called Ranunculus . This was such a fun project and I adore the outcome! I shot a TON of these flowers but here’s just a few highlights. These prints are also for sale, so if you’re interested in seeing more or making a purchase toss me an email and I’ll hook you up! 🙂
I held a mini session event last spring to raise money for colorectal cancer research and awareness. I teamed up with The Good Karma Yoga Studio and we had a crazy fun day of yoga, massage, kids activities, food and photography! These sessions were fun- we got a little silly too!
Photographing families is very VERY important to me. I treasure photos of my own children and looking back at how much we’ve grown as a family is such a beautiful thing. I love when families come back year after year so I can document the changes and their milestones.
And speaking of milestones, weddings are one of the most exciting milestones I get to capture!
And I started something new this year that proved to be a great fit for me! I was able to combine my love of fitness and yoga with my love of photography! I photographed the Lululemon Ambassadors and you can see my work hanging in the Lulu store at Crossgates Mall- how freaking cool is that! Beyond that however, I was able to meet so many wonderful people through that opportunity, be involved in amazing events that truly helped people in need and had SO much fun doing it! I was also able to connect with other yoga and fitness professionals and create marketing and promo photos for them to use as well!
WOW. What. A. Year.
With gratitude and warmth, Happy New Year!
